Monica is the fourth studio album by Jack Harlow, released on March 2026, marking his first full-length project since Jackman (2023). Dropping on his 28th birthday, the album represents a clear artistic shift, trading in Harlow’s signature rap-heavy style for a smoother, more melodic sound rooted in R&B and neo-soul influences. The project was largely conceived after Harlow relocated to New York City, where a change in environment inspired a more introspective and experimental creative process. Recording sessions took place at the iconic Electric Lady Studios, and Harlow described the move as something that “shook something loose” artistically, pushing him toward a more personal and sonically cohesive body of work.
Sonically, Monica leans into warm instrumentation, live-feeling arrangements, and intimate songwriting, drawing from late ‘90s and early 2000s soul textures. The album emphasizes mood and vulnerability over punchlines, with softer vocals and layered harmonies replacing the high-energy flows that defined his earlier hits. The project also features additional vocals and instrumentation from musicians such as Mustafa and Robert Glasper, further reinforcing its jazz and soul influences. On the production side, Harlow worked closely with a consistent group of collaborators including BabeTruth, Hollywood Cole, Rogét Chahayed, and his brother Clay Harlow. At its core, Monica is a stylistic pivot and a statement of reinvention. It explores themes of identity, intimacy, and artistic growth, presenting Harlow in a more reflective and stripped-back light.
