WALLS (an acronym for We Are Like Love Songs) is the seventh studio album by Kings of Leon, released in 2016.
WALLS finds Kings of Leon making a deliberate effort to evolve their stadium rock sound by embracing a cleaner, more streamlined, and distinctly pop-facing production aesthetic. Recorded in Los Angeles with new producer Markus Dravs (known for his work with Arcade Fire and Coldplay), the album is polished, expansive, and focused on big, anthemic hooks.
While the signature Southern-tinged rock remains at the core, the songs incorporate a new palette of textures, including subtle nods to 1980s guitar rock and more pronounced synth elements. The album is both commercially ambitious—designed for arena singalongs with tracks like the urgent opener “Waste a Moment”—and deeply personal. Frontman Caleb Followill delivers some of his most vulnerable and intelligible vocal performances, with lyrics that touch on personal anxieties, love, and mid-life introspection.
