“Merrie Land” is the second studio album by The Good, The Bad & The Queen, released in 2019.. The band is a supergroup consisting of Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Tony Allen (Afrobeat pioneer and Fela Kuti collaborator), and Simon Tong (The Verve).

“Merrie Land” is a concept album that captures the band’s reflections on modern Britain, offering a distinctive blend of alternative rock, post-punk, and elements of world music. The album’s title track, “Merrie Land,” sets the tone with its melancholic and introspective lyrics, exploring themes of nostalgia, identity, and the changing cultural and political landscape of the United Kingdom. The album as a whole maintains a moody and atmospheric quality, with Albarn’s poignant vocals and the band’s intricate musical arrangements creating a sonic journey through the complexities of contemporary British life. The songs often feature thoughtful and poetic lyrics, accompanied by a diverse range of musical textures, including elements of folk, reggae, and West African rhythms.
