Run Rose Run

Comes on peach vinyl LP.

“Run, Rose, Run,” released in 2022, is a unique project in Dolly Parton’s storied career, as it was released in conjunction with a novel of the same name co-written with author James Patterson. The album functions as a companion piece to the book, with the songs inspired by the story of a young woman navigating the challenges of the Nashville music scene. This concept allows Parton to explore themes of ambition, escaping the past, and the complexities of the music industry.

The album showcases Parton’s versatility, encompassing a range of country and bluegrass styles. The opening track, “Run,” sets a driving, energetic tone, while “Big Dreams and Faded Jeans” evokes a classic country feel, befitting a character chasing stardom. Parton’s songwriting prowess shines in tracks like “Woman Up (And Take It Like a Man),” which delivers her signature blend of sass and empowerment. The album also features collaborations, such as “Demons,” with Ben Haggard, adding depth and texture to the narrative. “Blue Bonnet Breeze” brings a haunting and dreamy feel. In essence, “Run, Rose, Run” is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a musical journey that complements a literary one, offering fans a deeper exploration of Dolly Parton’s storytelling and artistry.
