At The Speed of Sound

Comes on vinyl LP.

At The Speed of Sound is Wings’ fifth studio album, released in 1976. The album is marked by its more polished, radio-friendly sound, reflecting a shift from the experimental edges of Venus and Mars to a more accessible and commercial style. The record blends rock, pop, and ballads, with a particular emphasis on catchy melodies and straightforward arrangements.

Notably, At The Speed of Sound features contributions from all the band members, with Paul McCartney taking the lead on most of the tracks. It opens with the upbeat, radio-friendly “Let ‘Em In,” a funky pop tune with brass instrumentation and an infectious chorus. “The Note You Never Wrote,” sung by guitarist Jimmy McCulloch, offers a darker tone, while the soulful “Beware My Love” shows McCartney’s ability to balance emotional depth with rock power.

Tracks like “Silly Love Songs” became major hits, showcasing McCartney’s signature knack for writing charming and memorable pop songs. The album also touches on more introspective themes, such as in “Warm and Beautiful,” which contrasts the playful nature of the album with its tender closing ballad.
