About this record
Comes on 2LP vinyl.
Currents by Tame Impala is a psychedelic pop and electronic masterpiece that explores themes of change, self-reflection, and transformation. Released in 2015, the album marks a shift from the band’s earlier guitar-driven sound to a more electronic, synth-heavy style. Kevin Parker, the mastermind behind Tame Impala, dives deep into introspection, using the album as a sonic journey through the complexities of emotions, love, and personal growth.
The album blends shimmering synths, infectious basslines, and hypnotic beats with Parker’s signature falsetto, creating a lush, immersive soundscape. Tracks like “Let It Happen” and “The Less I Know The Better” showcase the album’s smooth fusion of retro ’70s influences with futuristic production. While the record has a dreamy, sometimes surreal atmosphere, it’s also grounded in a sense of melancholy and yearning. The layers of sound seem to reflect the turbulence and fluidity of life itself.
Currents feels like a reflection on the inevitable passage of time, with each track serving as a stepping stone in an emotional and sonic exploration. From the cosmic opening of “Let It Happen” to the melancholic groove of “New Person, Same Old Mistakes,” the album feels both personal and universal, encapsulating the experience of navigating change in the world.
