Mordechai

Comes on vinyl LP.

Mordechai by Khruangbin is a smooth, genre-blending album that deepens the band’s signature sound while exploring new textures. Released in 2020, it captures an expansive, soulful feel through a mix of funk, psychedelic rock, and international influences, especially drawing on global rhythms and instrumentation. The album is both laid-back and intricate, with each track unfolding like a journey through atmospheric landscapes, defined by the groovy basslines, crisp guitar work, and subtle yet powerful percussion.

The album stands out for its warm, sun-soaked tone and nuanced production. There’s a seamless fusion of ambient sounds and melodic sensibilities, blending Western funk and soul with Eastern influences and beyond. Tracks like “Time (You and I)” and “So We Won’t Forget” showcase the band’s ability to create space for emotion while maintaining a sense of cool detachment—everything feels effortless but deliberate. The smooth vocals of Laura Lee add a soulful dimension, with her voice often echoing like a whispered mantra that perfectly complements the instrumental landscape.
