Fuerza Regida made history on the Billboard 200 chart this week. The band’s 111XPANTIA is now the highest-charting Spanish-language album by a duo or group, and the highest-charting album in the música mexicana genre. It sits at Number Two on the chart, with Bad Bunny’s Debí Tirar Más Fotos at Number One, marking the first time the top two albums in the U.S. are in Spanish. On their ninth studio album, 111XPANTIA, the San Bernardino powerhouse pulls off their most impressive trick yet: they synthesize that experimental club energy right back into the dirt-road grit of hardcore corridos. Clocking in at a lean 34 minutes, 111XPANTIA plays like a midnight victory lap through the streets of SoCal. Frontman Jesús Ortíz Paz (JOP) sounds sharper and more charismatic than ever, balancing the absolute swagger of a street-certified mogul with the vulnerability of a guy who has spent way too many nights awake in a luxury hotel room.

The Paris-to-San-Berdoo Connection – The sonic masterminds behind this record are Fuerza’s own tololoche (traditional stand-up bass) player Moisés López and producers like Meñostyle and Jorsshh. In a fascinating creative pivot, a significant portion of the album’s skeleton was written during a hiatus in Paris before being tracked and finalized back home in San Bernardino. You can hear that continental sleekness clashing beautifully with West Coast energy. The acoustic framework is pristine, with standard-tuning requinto guitars laced over an incredibly heavy, booming tololoche that mimics the low-end sub-bass of a trap track. On standouts like “Nocturno” and “Ansiedad,” the band crafts a cinematic, dark-corrido atmosphere where the traditional acoustic instrumentation feels as menacing and atmospheric as a late-night hip-hop beat.
