Lungs

Comes on vinyl LP.

Lungs is the debut studio album by Florence + The Machine, released in 2009. With this album, Florence Welch and her band unveiled a unique blend of baroque pop, indie rock, and soul, delivering a dynamic and emotionally charged musical experience. The record is characterized by lush, expansive soundscapes, sweeping orchestration, and Welch’s powerful, ethereal vocals, which range from haunting to triumphant.

The album’s themes revolve around love, loss, longing, and personal transformation, often exploring the complexity of human emotion with vivid, poetic imagery. Tracks like “Dog Days Are Over” radiate optimism and exhilaration, while “You’ve Got the Love” speaks to catharsis and release from past struggles. The album’s mood swings from the introspective “Cosmic Love” to the intense, almost primal energy of “Kiss with a Fist.”

Lyrically, Lungs is rich with metaphor and striking visual imagery, capturing both the fragility and resilience of the human spirit. The album’s production, crafted by Paul Epworth, adds an element of grandeur and drama, creating an atmosphere that feels both intimate and vast.
